Peaceful Pause in the Park: An Outdoor Family Yoga Class at Harkness State Park
We invite school-age children and their caregivers to join us for an outdoor Family Yoga class designed to cultivate compassion and build resilience. Together, families will learn to find peace in the present moment, as they embark on an imaginative, ocean-themed, yoga adventure. Participants will learn mindfulness-based practices that will help them to increase their awareness of the connection between mind, body, and breath. Young audiences will be engaged through the developmentally-appropriate elements of playful storytelling, song, and movement. Seamlessly woven into the fabric of the adventure story are breathing strategies, yoga poses, and positive affirmations, and a brief guided meditation. The class will conclude with an opportunity for creative expression through sensory play and an ocean-themed nature craft.
Your Family Yoga experience will be facilitated by Peaceful Pause owner, Kate Cygler. Kate is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in mindfulness-based interventions with children and families. She is also a Registered 200 Hr Yoga Teacher (RYT-200), a Registered 95 Hr Children’s Yoga Teacher (RCYT). Kate has spent many blissful moments at Harkness and is grateful for the opportunity to practice in such a magnificent outdoor space.
In an effort to keep everyone safe during this ongoing pandemic period, we will be complying with CDC recommendations regarding outdoor recreational classes. Pre-registration is required and class size will be limited to 20. To honor the needs of all participants, when you arrive, please place your yoga mats/blankets at least 6 feet apart from other families and maintain this distance throughout our time together. (This does not apply for members of the same household.) It is not mandatory to wear a mask while on your mat/blanket. To reduce the risk of germ transmission, we will not be offering shared props, so please bring your own yoga mat, towel, water, and bug spray. Please stay home if you are experiencing any flu like symptoms or live with someone currently diagnosed with Covid-19.
All proceeds will support the efforts of Friends of Harkness, Inc, which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of the Harkness mansion and historic gardens.
Cost: $15 per family donation collected at the time of registration.
Class Date/Time: Wednesday, 7/28, 6-7PM
Location: We will meet on the seaside lawn, in front of the Eolia Mansion. Harkness Memorial State Park will remain open until sunset. All CT residents will enjoy access to free parking.
